We’re on a mission to do something really, really small. You’ll keep the systems behind it safe, strong, and secure.

Lace Lithography is developing revolutionary chip lithography technology to dramatically improve chip performance. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager/Squad Lead with deep expertise in cybersecurity and platform technologies to join our growing team in Barcelona. This role is focused on establishing robust security practices and building the foundational platform for our core scientific and engineering workloads.

About the Role

You will be responsible for shaping and implementing our cybersecurity strategy and leading a squad to build and manage a scalable platform for our simulations, design algorithms, and experimental data.

This role is based in Barcelona, and will involve regular travel between our two locations throughout the year.

What you’ll do

    • Cybersecurity:
      • Develop, implement, and manage company-wide cybersecurity policies, infrastructure, and practices.
      • Conduct risk assessments, manage incident response, and ensure compliance.
      • Advise the Board's cybersecurity committee and champion security awareness.
      • Stay current with cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies.
      • Select, deploy, and manage advanced cybersecurity tools and technologies to proactively protect Lace’s digital assets
      • Design, develop, and oversee custom security software and automation scripts to enhance threat detection, incident response, and system resilience.
    • Platform Engineering & Squad Leadership:
      • Lead, mentor, and manage a squad dedicated to designing, building, and maintaining a robust platform for our scientific and engineering computations and data.
      • Define the platform architecture and technology stack, considering HPC, data management, and workflow orchestration.
      • Oversee platform operations, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
      • Collaborate with scientific teams to translate their needs into platform requirements.
      • Implement DevOps/MLOps best practices for infrastructure, CI/CD, and monitoring.
      • Collaborate in the design and optimization of compute-intensive algorithms to ensure high performance, scalability, and efficient distributed computing at scale.
      • Partner with external stakeholders and experts in high-performance computing (HPC)
    • General:
      • Drive best practices in software development, infrastructure management, and security.
      • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
      • Manage project timelines and resources effectively.
      • Manage Lace’s IT processes - ranging from onboarding routines, application management, etc.

Who you are

  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role (e.g., Engineering Manager, Tech Lead) with a strong background in cybersecurity and/or platform engineering.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity principles, technologies (SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, IAM), risk management, incident response, and policy development. Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of platform technologies, including cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), and CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with platforms for computationally intensive workloads is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with both technical teams and leadership.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Strong coding skills are positively considered. You will be asked to perform a coding interview.
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity and/or platform engineering, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or senior IC capacity.
