Primary Responsibilities

• Understand user and customer needs, define solutions collaboratively.
• Design and develop backend for the Prowler product in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Build, maintain, and optimize secure, scalable backend APIs using containerized Django apps and Python.
• Contribute to backend architecture decisions and infrastructure planning.
• Enhance system performance, reliability, scalability, and security in a cloud-native environment.
• Work with product owners, designers, and developers to define project requirements and features.
• Lead code reviews, automated testing, and deployment workflows; mentor engineers on best practices.
• Improve development standards by integrating industry best practices.
• Manage relational databases, ensuring performance and scalability (currently PostgreSQL).
• Participate in community support, guiding others.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience

• Advanced proficiency in Python; experience with Django is a plus.
• 5+ years of backend development experience or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Expertise in relational database design and optimization, especially PostgreSQL.
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows.
• Knowledge of security, scalability, and maintainability best practices.
• Experience with containers and orchestration tools (Docker, ECS).
• Familiarity with CI/CD and deployment automation.
• Commitment to thorough testing, documentation, and high code quality.
• Ability to work independently and remotely.
• Fluent in English.
• Startup mindset: proactive, initiative-driven.

Good to Have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of Cloud Security.
• Open Source project experience.

This is a full-time, salaried role involving coding, testing, reviewing, and operating at scale. Prowler is fully remote, spanning U.S. time zones and parts of the EU. Candidates must manage their working hours responsibly, with mandatory minimum PTO (~5 weeks/year), a workstation stipend, flexible hours, and stock options.
