The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs : Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is looking for a Medical research Fellow paediatrician.

  • Medical doctor (clinican)
  • With demonstrated experience in running large clinical trials of diagnostic or therapeutic interventions for infectious diseases, single site or multi-site
  • With availability to travel or move to LMICs for periods of time
  • With training in tropical medicine and international health
  • With some epidemiological skills
  • With interest in prognostic interventions and host response biomarkers
  • With interest in diagnostic tools and technologies for global health

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To contribute in the design, execution and analysis of a variety of the ACROBAT-newborns project related to the validation of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic tools in neonates infectious diseases, with particular relevance to LMICs
  • To support implementation of ACROBAT-newborns Project while proactively applying for individual funding (fellowships and projects) either to build-on an existing research question within ACROBAT-newborns or to start a new one related to enhance management of infections with relevant impact in LMICs.
  • To proactively apply for individual funding (fellowships and projects)

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Supervise work from collaborators on sites involved in studies
  • Elaborate study reports
  • Be the person of reference for the funders

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Speciality in Biomedicine or similar with experience
  • Doctorate in Health / Biomedical Sciences, Public Health or related subject
  • Competencies and skills : Communication, Teamwork and collaboration,
  • Commitment, Proactivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
  • High level of English and preferably Portuguese and French.
  • Expertise in project design, team coordination and supervision
  • Expertise in field implementation activities in low and middle countries environment.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis of study results

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in field implementation activities in low and middle countries environment.

LANGUAGE LEVEL

  • High level of English
  • Knowledge of Portuguese and French

CONDITIONS

  • Duration : 42 Months
  • Contract Type : Full time
  • Salary : Medical Research Fellow D (38.148€ gross annual)

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases :

1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.

2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
