CCMAR / BPD / 08 / 2024 | Pos-Doctoral Fellowship | Biology and Bioimaging | 1 Vacancy

The Centro de Ciências do Mar do Algarve (CCMAR) offers one (01) postdoctoral fellowship (BPD) in Biology and Bioimaging or a related field. Candidates of any nationality, including stateless persons and refugees, are eligible. This fellowship is within the scope of the research project JDA ID 3193, named EMBRC - JDA Atlas: “3D Multimodal Atlas: Sea Life from Micro to Macro,” funded by EMBRC – European Marine Biological Resource Centre.

Host and Contracting Institution: CCMAR

Work Plan, Tasks, and Objectives:

The EMBRC-JDA 3D Multimodal Atlas project aims to develop advanced imaging tools to create 3D multimodal atlases of marine organisms, combining histology, lightsheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM), and micro-CT. The project involves collaboration with HCMR (Greece) and UPV/EHU (Spain).

The Quantitative Bio-Imaging Lab at CCMAR seeks a motivated postdoctoral researcher with experience in fluorescence microscopy, sample preparation, and bio-imaging techniques. Responsibilities include:

  1. Optimizing microscopy image acquisition and sample preparation protocols.
  2. Designing and conducting experiments with bio-imaging equipment.
  3. Analyzing complex 3D and 4D imaging data.
  4. Supporting laboratory tasks, including histology and buffer preparation.
  5. Collaborating on multidisciplinary research projects.
  6. Managing imaging supplies and documenting protocols.
  7. Publishing scientific papers and presenting at conferences.
  8. Participating in outreach activities and contributing to grant applications.

Application Requirements:

  • PhD in Biology, Bioengineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields, obtained within the last three years.
  • Experience in advanced fluorescence microscopy and sample preparation techniques.
  • Proficiency in image processing software (e.g., Zen, Arivis, Huygens, ImageJ).
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Additional advantageous skills include expertise in histology, micro-CT, AI-based image analysis, programming, marine biology, and handling marine organisms or zebrafish.

Selection and Application Details:

The selection process may include an interview. If no suitable candidates are found, the call may be closed or the position offered to next-ranked applicants within 12 months.

The fellowship duration is initially 12 months, potentially renewable up to 24 months, starting November 2024. The monthly stipend is €1801, paid via bank transfer.

Application period: October 8 to November 10, 2024, 23:59 (Lisbon time).

Required documents include:

  • A motivation letter (English).
  • A detailed CV (English).
  • Copy of doctoral certificate.
  • Contact details for up to three referees.

Applications without complete documentation will be rejected.
