Offer Description: The i2CAT Foundation (Barcelona) is opening a position to advance research and innovation in high-quality 3D reconstruction, both offline and in real-time.

The candidate will join i2CAT’s Media Tech group, which comprises over 20 experienced researchers and engineers specializing in distributed and interactive multimedia systems and media processing, involved in relevant R&I projects with European and national ecosystems, collaborating with academia and industry.

This role seeks a Senior Research Engineer with experience in applying Machine Learning techniques to 3D / Volumetric reconstruction. The ideal candidate should have familiarity with various ML architectures and frameworks used in Computer Vision and 3D reconstruction, and be knowledgeable in pinhole camera modeling and parameterization. Experience in GPU programming (CUDA / OpenCL) is a plus.

The responsibilities include conducting cutting-edge research, designing and testing new algorithms, building custom datasets, and integrating solutions into our platform. The candidate should be self-driven and capable of collaborating with experts within i2CAT and with international partners in projects like Horizon Europe, SNS JU, among others.

Expected outputs include scientific publications, technology transfer, open-source contributions, patents, and development of advanced software and services.

The candidate will also work on enhancing our 3D holoportation system and exploring other 3D reconstruction solutions for large scenarios and high-fidelity human reconstructions, actively participating in national and European projects such as Didymos, XRECO, and PRESENCE.

Key duties include:

• Designing and testing new models for real-time holoportation systems.
• Integrating novel solutions into existing systems.
• Developing new 3D reconstruction methods for large scenarios or high-definition avatars.
• Third-party technology integration and innovation.

The ideal candidate:

• Has at least 2 years of R&D or development experience in ML applied to computer vision or 3D reconstruction.
• Understands camera pinhole models and related transformations.
• Proficient in Python; experience with ML debugging tools like TensorBoard and Weights & Biases.
• Capable of understanding existing code quickly and experienced with agile methodologies.
• Possesses teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred skills:

• Experience in C++, GPU programming (CUDA/OpenCL), immersive technologies (XR, VR, AR), or game development frameworks (Unity/Unreal).
