Title : Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter (Surety & Credit)

Location : Hybrid / 2 days in the office

Reporting to : Portfolio Manager

Role Overview

As the Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter (Surety & Credit), you will serve as the right hand to the Portfolio Manager, directly engaging in underwriting, portfolio strategy, and market interactions. This position presents a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in treaty underwriting, portfolio management, and business development, with a clear path for long-term growth within Rokstone.

You will play a vital role in assessing and managing treaty reinsurance risks, interacting with cedents and brokers, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Due to the lean structure of the Surety & Credit team, you will be exposed to all aspects of the business, working closely with the Portfolio Manager while benefiting from the operational, IT, finance, and marketing support provided by Rokstone’s broader corporate structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting & Risk Analysis : Assist in evaluating treaty reinsurance submissions, analysing exposures, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Portfolio Management : Support the Portfolio Manager in monitoring performance, analysing data, and optimising the treasury book.
  • Market Engagement : Develop relationships with brokers, cedents, and industry players, gradually taking on a more commercial role.
  • Financial & Credit Analysis : Assess the financial strength and creditworthiness of cedents and their associated risks.
  • Strategic Development : Contribute to business planning, market research, and strategic decisions aimed at expanding the portfolio.
  • Technical & Contractual Work : Assist in structuring treaty programs, reviewing treaty wordings, and managing contract documentation.
  • Operational Coordination : Work closely with Rokstone’s corporate teams (operations, finance, IT, and marketing) to ensure smooth execution of underwriting activities.
  • Multilingual Communication : Utilise language skills to engage with international partners, particularly across Europe.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience : 3 years in reinsurance, underwriting, or a related financial sector (preferably in surety, credit, or treaty reinsurance).
  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Analytical & Technical Skills : Strong capabilities in financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and treaty underwriting.
  • Languages : Fluency in English and Spanish is essential; proficiency in Italian is highly preferred. Additional European languages are a plus.
  • Market Awareness : Knowledge of surety and credit insurance, treaty structures, and industry trends.
  • Software Proficiency : Strong Excel skills and ability to work with data analytics tools.
  • Commercial Acumen : Interest in market development, relationship management, and business strategy.
  • Independence & Initiative : Willingness to take on responsibilities, solve problems, and drive business growth.
