THE CHALLENGE

Eventbrite's mission to bring people together for live experiences sits at the intersection of technology at scale and core human interactions. Our business growth relies on the largest supply of unique and relevant events worldwide. Creators who host these events leverage Eventbrite daily as a primary partner for delivering unforgettable experiences to consumers. As a Director of Engineering, you will inspire, mentor, and develop a team that builds high-quality, scalable, and secure systems to ensure Creator retention through tooling, automation, and data leverage.

THE TEAM

We are a people-focused engineering organization that values collaboration, mentorship, inclusion, and continuous learning. Our team engages in pair programming, weekly demos, tech talks, and hackathons. Our technology spans web, mobile, API, cloud, data at scale, and vendor integrations.

THE ROLE

• Build strong leaders through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development.
• Recruit diverse engineering talent with effective hiring strategies.
• Possess strong technical skills to identify risks and develop simple, cost-effective solutions.
• Lead product and team transformations to build resilient, performant, and customer-centric software.
• Participate in infrastructure and application design, focusing on scalability, security, and cost-efficiency.
• Collaborate with product and business leaders to achieve goals efficiently and predictably.
• Foster a high ownership culture with operational excellence, resolving bugs and incidents within SLAs.

THE SKILL SET

• Leadership experience with engineering teams, including scaling technology and people.
• Experience managing rapid development cycles and A/B testing tools.
• Experience building financial systems similar to Eventbrite, understanding vendor landscapes.
• Familiarity with SOX compliance for US public companies.
• Proven ability to develop roadmaps, execute high-performance projects, and improve operational processes.
• Collaborative mindset to work closely with product, design, data, and finance teams.
• Work with security teams to ensure system and network security.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts and inspire teams.
• Track record of recruiting and retaining technical talent.
• Comfort with fast-paced, changing organizations.
• Experience working with US companies and building global teams.

TECH STACK

• Legacy system on Python and Django on AWS with MySQL Aurora.
• New services built on Kotlin, NodeJS, React, DynamoDB, Lambdas, and microservices, emphasizing team autonomy and managed services.
