FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. The Department of Nursing at LaGuardia Community College seeks to fill three positions at the Assistant Professor level to teach courses in the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Degree Program and Practical Nurse Certificate Program. The Assistant Professor supports departmental, divisional, and college initiatives, participates in academic advisement, contributes to new program development, and performs research and scholarly activities that advance the discipline of nursing. The Assistant Professor will also share responsibility for committee and departmental assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Nursing and valid Registered Professional Nurse License (New York State or eligible) required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, potential for scholarship and achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. All faculty will be required to submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years clinical experience in nursing strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching or experience serving as a nurse preceptor preferred.
- Ph.D. in nursing or equivalent (Masters degree in nursing, RN licensure, and three years of nursing experience)
- Familiarity with the use of technology such as Word, Medical Record Systems, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Ability to contribute to fostering an inclusive academic environment amongst culturally diverse faculty, staff, and student populations preferred.
Compensation
$70,238 - $90,375
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

For Appointments Expected To Start After 8/31/2025
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
