DM1Hub aims to serve as the foundation for implementing precision medicine in Spain for patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1), focusing on improved diagnosis and the optimization of upcoming treatments. The project unites 80 professionals from research and clinical monitoring fields, forming a multidisciplinary team with extensive expertise in DM1, including genomics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, proteomics, applied research, and scientific dissemination. Additionally, the team includes around 70 healthcare professionals—neurologists, neuropediatricians, neuropsychologists, and nurses—across more than 40 hospitals in 8 Autonomous Communities, providing patient follow-up services. We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic nurse to join the DM1Hub project. The nurse will collaborate with other nurses and health professionals across Spain, performing similar tasks in different Autonomous Communities. The project is funded by a grant from ISCIII for Research Projects on Rare Diseases (PMPER24/00007), under the 2024 Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, within the PERTE for Vanguard Health and the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The nurse will contribute to various aspects of the DM1Hub project:

  • Receive training alongside nurses from other autonomous communities on:
  • Mission objectives and main tasks in DM1Hub
  • Collecting clinical variables from patients (training provided by the DM1Hub clinical team)
  • Administering neuropsychological tests (training provided by the neuropsychologist)
  • Using the RedCAp database (training provided by project experts)
  • Blood sample collection and processing (training provided by the DM1Hub lab team), with potential training from TreatNMD in quality data acquisition

Tasks include:

  • Contacting patients (adults and children) and organizing visits across more than 10 hospitals in Barcelona
  • Obtaining clinical information via phone and in-person visits
  • Administering scales and tests to patients
  • Assisting patients with filling out patient-reported outcomes
  • Entering data into RedCAp and following up on missing data
  • Participating in meetings with the DM1Hub team
  • Labeling, processing, and organizing blood samples for shipment to IGTP GRENBA lab
  • Occasional participation in patient workshops or scientific events
  • Reporting results, issues, and achievements to the project management team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Blood extraction skills
  • Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
  • At least 2 years of hospital work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Languages: Spanish and Catalan; English is a plus
  • Ability to coordinate patient schedules
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willingness to work in multiple hospitals in Barcelona and make home visits
  • Interest in research and eagerness to acquire new skills
