Job Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure IP-based network architectures for ETCS (European Train Control System) onboard systems, including EVC, DMI, Juridical Recorder, odometry interfaces, and more.
  • Configure and manage the CCS Consist Network, ensuring segregation, security, and reliable performance of safety-critical and non-safety-critical data flows within the vehicle.
  • Implement network segmentation, firewall rules, VPNs, and secure gateways tailored to the requirements of ETCS onboard environments.
  • Integrate and secure ETCS communication interfaces, including Euroradio (GSM-R/FRMCS), EDOR units, and onboard data loggers.
  • Perform threat and risk assessments, define mitigations, and align with IEC 62443, ISO 27001, and rail-specific security frameworks (e.g., ERA guidelines).
  • Collaborate with system architects and certification teams to ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations and generate supporting safety documentation.
  • Support the security certification process for onboard systems through technical documentation, test reports, and interface specifications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including integration, testing, validation, and vehicle engineering.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with IP-based embedded or vehicular networks, ideally in rail or other safety-critical domains.
  • Solid understanding of Layer 2/3 technologies, VLANs, routing, NAT, VPNs, and firewall architectures in a constrained embedded or vehicle environment.
  • Preferably knowledge of ETCS onboard components.
  • Familiarity with CCS Consist Network concepts, especially related to ETCS and other Control-Command and Signalling functions.
  • Proficient in using security and network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nessus, Zeek, Suricata).
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443, ISO 27001, and other IT security standards relevant to railway certification and safety assessment.
  • Strong analytical skills, structured documentation habits, and effective communication across engineering disciplines.
