Principal Scientist - Computational Chemistry (m/f/d)

  • Full-time

As a world market leader in crop protection, we help farmers to counter threats and ensure enough safe, nutritious, affordable food for all – while minimizing land use and agricultural inputs. Syngenta Crop Protection keeps plants safe from planting to harvesting, protecting crops from weeds, insects, diseases, droughts, floods, heat, and cold. Headquarters are in Switzerland.

Health Promotion Switzerland recognizes Syngenta's commitment to employee well-being with the "Friendly Work Space" label for all Swiss sites. Employee health and well-being are key to us.

We seek a highly motivated computational chemist to join our R&D team in Stein, Switzerland. With expertise in computer-aided chemical design and molecular modeling, you will drive innovation in molecular design processes. You will also have opportunities to explore AI/ML methodologies alongside traditional computational chemistry to accelerate and enhance active ingredient design. Strong teamwork, excellence in computational design, and translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions are essential.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and optimize molecules based on data-driven hypotheses, collaborating with chemists, biologists, and other experts
  • Develop and implement computational workflows supporting molecular design
  • Create structure-property relationships to inform design choices
  • Explore new computational methods to improve molecular design efficacy
  • Provide feedback to continuously improve computational chemistry infrastructure, workflows, and algorithms

Required Skills:

  • PhD in computational chemistry or related field
  • Strong background in target- and ligand-based design
  • Proficiency with standard computational chemistry/cheminformatics tools
  • Experience with computational workflows such as virtual screening and library design
  • Working knowledge of Python programming
  • Basic understanding of statistics and data analysis
  • Proficiency in Windows and Unix OS, including scripting and CLI automation
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) and distributed environments
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Additional Expertise:

  • Knowledge of machine learning applications in chemistry
  • Advanced data analysis and visualization skills

We offer access to state-of-the-art research facilities, a dynamic and inclusive work environment, flexible work arrangements, and professional development programs, especially in AI/ML applications, statistics, programming, and software development. You will also have opportunities to connect with a vibrant scientific community, and enjoy benefits like a competitive pension, bonuses, onsite health services, fitness facilities, and family support initiatives.

If interested, please submit your application including CV, research summary, diploma, and cover letter.
