You’ll be working within the Manufacturing Science & Technology and Global Engineering group. As a key strategic enabling function for the Roche Manufacturing network, we support the changing product mix, new modalities, and investments for our internal manufacturing capabilities and assets that ultimately bring the Roche pipeline to commercial production to deliver for patients.

Job Mission

As our Senior Project Director for Pharma Tech Technology (PTT), you will report to the Head of Global Project Delivery and be a member of the PTT Delivery Leadership Team. This leadership position will be responsible for design and construction projects over CHF 10M for Roche Pharma Technical Operations (PT), including project management, project controls, and line management for Project Managers. You will provide design and construction expertise and guidance as needed.

You should possess strong organizational leadership skills, executive presence, and business and financial acumen. The ideal candidate will have significant corporate design and construction experience, preferably in a regulated / GMP environment, with the ability to lead in dynamic and competitive business conditions. Operational and business leadership skills, adaptability to change, stakeholder influence, and the ability to drive innovation in project management are essential.

Your Impact

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Project Delivery function on major PT project investments, including leading capital projects.
  • Partner with key PT members and site functions to align on the capital project portfolio, ensuring asset strategy realization to meet PT objectives.
  • Develop business cases for capital projects to ensure timely, cost-effective, and sustainable project delivery with minimal business impact.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and scope, and meet safety and regulatory standards, with proper governance and strategic relationships.
  • Contribute to developing PTT capabilities in project management and controls, ensuring efficient processes and providing sponsorship to team members.
  • Stay updated on global design and construction industry trends, applying innovative and sustainable strategies.

  • Capable of navigating and influencing Roche culture and building networks across functions and senior partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc/BA in Business, Engineering, or Design & Construction; expertise in mechanical, electrical, environmental fields preferred.
  • An MBA and certifications like Six Sigma, Lean, or Operational Excellence are desirable.
  • Extensive experience in corporate design & construction, ideally in biopharma or regulated industries, with leadership in architecture, engineering, and construction management.
  • Proven success managing large budgets (at least $100M), meeting financial targets, and delivering cost savings.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary and matrix teams, with a track record of meeting performance metrics.

This position is based in Basel, with approximately 10% travel required to support projects.
