Jobbeschreibung

For our Sinergia project entitled “Plasmonic nanoparticle-enhanced near-infrared organic light-emitting diodes,” the Laboratory for Multifunctional Materials is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the field of plasmonic nanostructures. The project is a collaboration between groups at Empa, ETH Zurich, and EPFL.

Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the microwave-assisted synthesis of metallic and semiconducting nanoparticles, along with their structural and morphological characterization. A key aspect of the work involves investigating the optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles using techniques such as UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy. The role also includes preparing colloidal dispersions for thin film fabrication, collaborating with consortium partners from various scientific disciplines, supervising Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, contributing to scientific publications, and presenting research findings at conferences.

Profile

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in materials science or chemistry, with specialization in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. Expertise in plasmonic nanostructures is essential. Experience with transmission electron microscopy (including EELS) and/or ellipsometry is highly advantageous. The candidate should be able to work independently and in team settings, demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills in an academic environment. Creativity, motivation, and the ability to work on interdisciplinary research topics are important, leveraging the excellent environment at ETH Zurich.

We offer

  • A fully funded position within a vibrant, international research environment
  • Close collaboration within the group and with consortium partners
  • State-of-the-art lab facilities and a generous budget for consumables and travel
