UNICEF has set ambitious goals in its 2022-2025 Strategic Plan to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), based in Geneva, supports this mission by maximizing UNICEF's private sector fundraising, partnerships, and engagement activities, including work with National Committees, regional and country offices, and other HQ Divisions. The global Innovative Financing for Children (IF4C) initiative is central to these goals, helping address complex global challenges like climate change and disasters that disproportionately affect the most vulnerable children and adolescents.

The PFP IF4C team is tasked with finding innovative alternative financing and funding solutions and partnerships to accelerate progress towards the SDGs for children by 2030. This is achieved through identifying, capacitating, driving, and scaling innovative approaches to financing and investing in children across a diverse spectrum of public and private sector capital. The Strategy, Business & Partnerships Consultant will be instrumental in supporting these efforts.

Purpose of the Assignment:

The Fundraising Specialist Consultant will support the PFP IF4C team by primarily supporting back-office fundraising functions such as donor mapping, deep-dive research, compiling donor profiles, pipeline building, drafting funding proposals, case for support, investment cases, decks/presentations, pitches, donor reports, event management, and delivering fundraising trainings. The role involves supporting fundraising efforts for IF4C priority Tier 1 and other relevant products.

Objectives:

Overall: To support resource mobilization from private (foundations, corporate, HNWIs/philanthropists, faith-based organizations, etc.) and public sectors (including multilaterals and development banks) by providing back-office support for key IF4C initiatives and Tier 1 projects:

  • Formulate funding proposals, case for support, value propositions, investment cases, decks/presentations, pitches, donor reports, and other fundraising tools.
  • Organize and manage fundraising events and deliver relevant trainings.
  • Support senior management meetings with donors through briefing notes and supporting materials.

Major Tasks:

  • Research and Pipeline Development: donor mapping, research, and pipeline building for Tier 1 projects.
  • Fundraising tools and collateral: drafting proposals, cases for support, presentations, reports, in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Event Management and Training: organizing fundraising events and delivering training.
  • Donor Meetings Support: preparing briefing notes and materials for meetings with donors.

Responsibilities of the Consultant:

  • Use own equipment; maintain confidentiality; do not share content without UNICEF permission; branding restrictions.

Responsibilities of UNICEF:

  • Provide activity details; orient the consultant on branding; share documents timely.

Deliverables:

  1. Research prospects and build a donor pipeline.
  2. Draft briefing notes for senior management.
  3. Create fundraising materials for specific projects.
  4. Prepare presentations and reports.
  5. Develop a comprehensive investment pipeline.
  6. Write donor strategies and mappings.
  7. Prepare stakeholder engagement materials.
  8. Plan and deliver events and trainings.

Travel:

Travel may be required; UNICEF will cover expenses.

Duration:

3 years

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in relevant fields or Bachelor’s with additional experience.

Experience: Minimum 8 years in finance, impact investing, or related fields; experience with global partners preferred.

Languages: Fluency in English required; additional UN languages an asset.
