The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is seeking a Network Infrastructure Architect to join our Core Infrastructure Engineering team.
This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the role:The Bank for International Settlements’ mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership and to act as a bank for central banks.
In this role, you will play a critical part in advancing this mission by designing, implementing, and automating cutting-edge networking technologies, with a strong focus on Cisco ACI and SD Access. You will also provide operational support for our diverse networking environment, encompassing traditional on-premise infrastructure, software-defined networking, and public cloud solutions, ensuring seamless connectivity and robust performance across the organization.
By joining the team, you will:· Lead the development of network strategy and roadmaps: Define and drive the vision for our network infrastructure, ensuring it aligns with the needs of the business today and into the future.
· Collaborate across teams: Work closely with infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to deliver a cohesive and integrated network ecosystem.
· Drive modernisation and automation: Spearhead initiatives that modernise our network capabilities, enhance efficiency, and future-proof our systems.
Principal accountabilities:Provide internal management, expert advice and operational experience on automation of IT infrastructure throughout the organisation, including cloud and on-premise.
· Technology Optimization: Implement solutions that reduce manual work and effort required for regular tasks related to IT infrastructure operations. Reduce risk of errors by introducing automation platforms and capabilities.
· Business Agility: Increase the agility of IT and enable business areas to gain access to common infrastructure services by providing automation through standard and repeatable interfaces.
· Resilience: Ensure that activities are undertaken in accordance with the Bank’s high security standards in alignment with corporate policies, release and change management, and compliance. Incorporate resilience practices such that solutions are adequately protected and able to be sustained during times of adversity.
· Technology Strategy: Support the selection of technology to meet the Bank’s business needs taking into account the quality of technology for hybrid cloud strategy (automation, monitoring and resilience).
· IT Operations: Maintain high quality networking services for diverse customers across on-premise and cloud facilities. Reduce risk of error in configuration changes by developing practices based on Configuration-as-Code.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:· A university degree in a related field or the equivalent gained through professional experience.
· Experience with design, implementation and support of network operation systems including Software Defined Networking ACI and SD Access
· Deep Knowledge of Cisco IOS, IOS-XE and NXOS
· Experience with other technology platforms is advantageous; Palo Alto, Infoblox, F5
· Fluency with automation tools and frameworks with demonstrated experience applying tools to improve efficiency.
· Experience with DevOps practices, in particular automation and reusability as key enablers of project delivery and operations.
· Fluency in one of the major scripting languages and common automation frameworks (Python, Powershell, Ansible, Terraform).
· Experience of public cloud infrastructure, MS Azure preferred.
· Proven ability to troubleshoot complex network issues while maintaining a strategic focus on long-term solutions.
· Strong technical leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide team members effectively.
· Able to work on-call as part of a regular operational rotation to support network issues that may arise outside of core hours
· Excellent command of English and good communication skills.
