The Tire Industry Project (TIP) operates under the umbrella of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Formed in 2005, TIP is a voluntary, CEO-driven initiative with a mission to anticipate, understand, and address global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues relevant to the tire industry and its value chain. TIP acts by commissioning independent research of the highest standards, collaborating on sectoral solutions, and engaging with external stakeholders. TIP currently brings together 10 leading tire companies (Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin, Pirelli, Sumitomo, Toyo and Yokohama) that represent more than 60% of the world’s tire manufacturing capacity, and is co-chaired by Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear and Michelin.
Job Overview
The Senior Manager, ELT & SAM plays a crucial role in advancing the Tire Industry Project's (TIP) mission to address global ESG issues related to the tire industry. This role focuses on project management, technical market understanding, and stakeholder engagement, specifically related to end-of-life tire management and circularity.
The Senior Manager leads projects, develops and maintains partnerships, provides technical expertise and supports advocacy efforts within the ELT (End-of-Life Tires) and SAM (Sustainability Assessment Methods) Task Forces. This will include the deployment of the TIP ELT long-term strategy together with the TIP members, affiliate members, and stakeholders. The role reports to the Director, Action and Engagement.
Main Responsibilities
- Project Management
- Lead and manage ELT & SAM Task Forces and related activities within TIP, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, monitoring, and controlling, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery of outcomes.
- Manage and secure deliverables from consultants and other external partners.
- Ensure synergies and collaboration between the ELT & SAM Task Forces as well as other areas of TIP’s work.
- Technical Expertise & Market Understanding
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of end-of-life tire management, recycling, and circularity, including current and future technologies.
- Understanding of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies and requirements.
- Provide technical expertise to support TIP's advocacy efforts and inform strategic decision-making.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, challenges, and opportunities related to waste management and circular economy within the tire sector.
- Conduct research and analysis to inform project development and strategic direction.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the area of waste management and circularity, including collectors, recyclers, waste treatment companies, tire trade associations, policymakers, and the scientific community.
- Establish and nurture partnerships to advance TIP's ELT & SAM ambition.
- Advocacy Support
- Provide technical expertise to support TIP's advocacy efforts related to end-of-life tire management and circularity.
- Contribute to the development of policy recommendations and advocacy strategies.
- Engage with policymakers and other stakeholders to promote sustainable practices within the tire industry.
- General Management & Leadership
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction of TIP.
- Lead and support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Effectively communicate project updates and key information to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage information using tools such as SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint, and present information in a clear and concise manner.
Qualifications, Skills, and ExperienceThe candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, or related), Business Administration (with a sustainability focus), or other related fields. A master's degree in a related area is preferred.
- Project Management: Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with a significant portion focused on project management and/or sustainability-related initiatives. Demonstrated experience with project management methodologies.
- End-of-life technical knowledge: Deep understanding of end-of-life tire management practices, technologies, and challenges, including collection, recycling, material recovery, and disposal. Knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices.
- Circularity technical knowledge: Strong grasp of circular economy principles and their application, with a focus on resource efficiency, waste reduction, and closed-loop systems.
- Understanding and knowledge around life cycle assessment methodologies.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including industry representatives, policymakers, NGOs, and research institutions. Experience in facilitating collaborative discussions and negotiations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to assess complex situations, and identify effective solutions.
- Global mindset and teamwork: Demonstrated experience working across geographies to build and nurture relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
- Self-starter with a can-do attitude who is comfortable navigating uncharted territories and establishing structure and processes.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); other languages are an advantage.
The position is permanent, based in Geneva, and will require international travel, and ability to work with teams established in different time zones.
