The Opportunity

As Head of the Pharma Compliance Office, you will oversee the comprehensive compliance program for Roche Pharma. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, managing and overseeing the governance and strategic framework for compliance and business sustainability, to support the Pharma organization and ensure sustainable growth. You will effectively foster and further strengthen a culture of integrity, drive compliance risk and opportunity management and state of the art compliance programs, foster continuous improvement of the compliance and business sustainability processes, supporting the organization with an effective and proactive business oriented approach.

You will lead the Pharma Compliance Office, which is committed to fostering transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in all the compliance efforts within the Pharma Division.


You will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and be a member of the Compliance Leadership Team, as well as the Pharma International Enabling Team (INET) and the GPS leadership team.

The Key Responsibilities include:

  • Enabling the deployment of Pharma strategy by defining strategic directions and framework in compliance and business sustainability and its execution.

  • Actively shaping and influencing policy strategy and development and participating in relevant business sustainability governance bodies (inside / outside of Roche Pharma).

  • Overseeing and improving the effectiveness of a business-oriented comprehensive Compliance Management System (CMS) for Pharma, fully integrating and linking into the overarching Roche Group compliance management system and fostering a culture of integrity and ethical business practices.

  • Providing support and guidance throughout the organization, in order to enable the business and co-create business strategy and solutions.

  • Monitoring performance against this strategy, and taking adequate actions as need dictates.

  • Working cross-functionally with all the Organisational Units of the Pharma division (GPS, PDMA, PI, Genentech, the REDs, PD, PT, Partnering and others) and supporting them in various compliance and business sustainability initiatives.

  • Conducting effective training and education to Roche Pharma employees and leadership teams on business sustainability. Internal / external monitoring and audits to assess compliance.

  • Responding promptly to detected cases of noncompliance and undertaking corrective actions as applicable. Where applicable support the assessment and implementation of disciplinary measures.

  • Working in strong partnership with the Chief Compliance Officer and with other Roche compliance officers and business teams to ensure a consistent and effective compliance program within the larger Roche enterprise and foster a oneRoche Approach wherever sensible.

  • Travel % required: 50%

Who you are:

  • University Degree (or MBA or other relevant Post Graduate qualification), preferably in the Legal, Finance, Economics, Business, Administration, Audit area.

  • Extensive Experience (min. 10 years) in Compliance in the Healthcare industry, ideally with international and team leadership experiences.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant international Pharma laws, policies and regulations, and deep understanding of the Pharma division and/or Pharma industry, intercultural understanding and experience in change management, strong skills in Project Management.

  • Passionate and decisive business leader with high ethical and integrity standards. You demonstrate energy, passion, courage, vision and the drive to be part of an organization at the forefront of the industry, delivering benefits for patients, our people, and our business. You have high ethical and integrity standards.

  • Proficiency in Healthcare compliance management. Proven business experience in healthcare, preferably Pharma, including comprehensive understanding of strategy, priorities, products and market conditions in a global setting.

  • You are able to manage complexity through the ability to quickly understand and analyze facts and situations.

  • You have excellent active listening skills, fostering open communication and speak-up culture.

  • “Can-do” attitude, embracing business thinking and -ideas, hands-on.

  • You are able to establish common ground with stakeholders, balancing out conflicting interests and reach consensus.

  • You have a good sense for pragmatism in approach.

  • Enterprise mindset that can break down silos. You thrive on collaboration, ability to bring people together to work towards the same purpose across organization boundaries. You have a track record in directly or indirectly leading virtual teams in multicultural and matrix environments.

  • Executive presence and highly developed leadership skills: Demonstrating a clear commitment to people development and effective mentoring; promoting a culture of trust and support. You demonstrated success in establishing a high performing environment with an excellent reputation attracting the best talent, developing and inspiring them.

  • Fluency in English (other languages are an asset)

You are also responsible for building, and then providing effective leadership for the Pharma Compliance Network. Doing so in a manner that is consistent with the Roche Values and leadership capabilities. You will seek to inspire and lead the Pharma Compliance Office to create transformative solutions, and to influence their prioritization and uptake in the wider organization, in order to ensure that customer solutions are at the forefront of Roche Pharma Compliance and deliver its optimal contribution to the Roche Pharma Vision.

You lead in a manner that is consistent with the Roche Values, Operating Principles and leadership capabilities within the Creative Leadership and the VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, Coach) framework.

The Head of Pharma Compliance is expected to demonstrate the Roche Operating Principles and contribute to the Roche Group.
