As a Senior Lawyer, you will provide in-house legal, regulatory, and governance advice to Zurich’s Retail General Insurance business in Australia, to enable them to achieve their strategic and commercial goals, protect and preserve the company’s assets, and identify, manage, and mitigate legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.

The role will have a focus on the travel insurance business, and provide support through the delivery of professional advice on legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the business, negotiating and documenting contracts with strategic partners, guiding complaints teams on complaints and disputes resolution, assisting with regulatory dealings and investigations, helping compliance teams administer and optimise compliance frameworks, identifying and managing governance issues and intra-group conflicts and assisting with company secretarial functions.

The role also involves drafting, advising on and negotiating commercial contracts (including information technology, outsourcing and procurement contracts) and providing clear solution-focused legal advice on a range of business initiatives and other matters across the Zurich group, including:

  • Financial services advice and distribution laws
  • General commercial and corporate law
  • Competition and consumer protection law
  • Commercial disputes and litigation
  • Regulatory inquiries and investigations
  • Intellectual property, branding and technology
  • Data protection and privacy law

Important to your success – let’s grow together

  • Recognised Australian legal qualifications and eligible to practice law in New South Wales.
  • 10+ years PQE experience across the financial services industry including retail general insurance, working in a law firm or in-house position.
  • Ability to receive instructions, analytically assess issues and communicate advice clearly and in a non-legalistic way.
  • Strong written communications skills and ability to produce a variety of documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought, and orderliness of presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build and maintain trustful, working relationships at all levels of the organisation; able to demonstrate professional and tactful customer relationship skills.
