Your Tasks

BakerHicks is one of the leading consultancies in the power transmission and distribution sector in the UK. As part of their expansion into the DACH region, they are seeking an ambitious Substation / Primary Layout Engineer to support this growth.

About the Role

You will be an experienced engineer in the design and planning of transmission-level onshore substations at voltages from 110kV to 400kV. Your responsibilities will include producing substation primary layouts, specifying primary equipment, performing equipment rating calculations, busbar short circuit force calculations, earthing studies, impressed voltage calculations, creating material specification lists, fault calculations, P&C wiring diagrams, protection requirements, and system modeling.

You must have full proficiency in German and a good level of English.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide substation layout designs and act as the lead substation engineer/planner.
  • Collaborate closely with design teams in the UK to ensure compliance with local standards.
  • Ensure design scope is delivered on time and within budget.

Your Profile

  • Experience in producing or managing designs, calculations, reports, and drawings for HV power transmission systems, HVDC interconnectors, or HV renewable energy infrastructure in the DACH region.
  • Full working proficiency in German and good English skills.
  • Specialist knowledge in High Voltage Substations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to BakerHicks offices in Basel and London.

Travel Activity

Projects typically last between 6 and 24 months. Work locations are mainly at the customer site, with possible remote work in consultation with project management. Employees have the chance to work with various clients and technologies, visit new cities, and return home on weekends.
