About Neuroscience & Rare Diseases (NRD)

Within pRED, NRD is a key focus area dedicated to improving the lives of patients with severe brain disorders. Our research spans neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, dementias, and multiple sclerosis, combining expertise across disciplines to transform scientific advances into effective treatments.

Program Overview

This fellowship offers candidates exposure to cutting-edge drug development from a Medical Director perspective. It provides hands-on experience in early development and involves active participation in the clinical development of therapies for both common and rare neurological conditions. The program is tailored to the candidate’s background and interests, integrating them into ongoing projects and supporting skill development through mentorship. Activities include observation, inquiry, and project work within active programs.

Location

This position is based at the Roche Innovation Site in Basel, within the Early Development, Neuroscience, and Rare Diseases (NRD) department of pRED.

Job Mission

  1. Enhance knowledge of drug development and the pharmaceutical industry.
  2. Participate in core responsibilities of clinical science and understand the functions within pRED.
  3. Observe and support ongoing projects in the NRD therapeutic area.
  4. Contribute to key drug development steps, including strategic planning, clinical development plans, target product profiles, and study protocols.
  5. Engage in internal and external meetings such as investigator meetings and scientific advisory boards.

Your Impact

  • Collaborate across functions including research, biomarkers, clinical sciences, patient partnerships, safety, pharmacology, operations, and regulatory affairs to plan and execute study activities.
  • Present findings at meetings, congresses, and symposiums.
  • Interact with senior leadership and engage with patient associations.
  • Receive encouragement and support for publishing your work.
  • Benefit from coaching, guidance, and mentorship programs.

Your Profile

  • Medical degree with specialty training in neurology or related fields (e.g., old age psychiatry, neurogeriatrics).
  • Research experience, ideally with a PhD or a publication record; academic positions such as Assistant Professor are desirable.
  • Fellowship or clinical/research experience in neuromuscular disorders, especially ALS or muscular dystrophies, is preferred.
