Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a Junior Legal Adviser, you will join the Institutional Section (IL) of the Legal Service (LS) within the Directorate General (DG). You will perform duties at CERN headquarters outside Geneva, under the supervision of the Legal Counsel.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and following up on scientific collaboration agreements and memoranda of understanding with government agencies, institutes, and universities contributing to CERN's scientific programme, as well as consortium and partnership agreements related to CERN's participation in EU R&D framework programmes.
  • Contributing to the drafting, reviewing, and implementing of internal legislation (e.g., Staff Rules and Regulations, Pension Fund Rules and Regulations).
  • Providing legal advice on data privacy protection matters.
  • Providing legal advice regarding CERN's privileges and immunities.
  • Performing other related legal tasks as assigned.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Master's degree in law; knowledge of laws applicable to intergovernmental organizations is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in legal drafting and research.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Professional fluency in English, including drafting skills; working knowledge of French is an asset.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Law (or related field), with the highest educational qualification being either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • Never have held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without a university degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Additional Information

Contract duration: 24 months, with possible extension up to 36 months.

Working hours: 40 hours per week.
