Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fire risk analysis studies, including advanced fire dynamics.
  • Develop fire safety concepts for the Einstein Telescope project.
  • Contribute to the overall safety concept, working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, physicists, and fire officers.

About Einstein Telescope: The Einstein Telescope is a proposed underground, third-generation gravitational-wave observatory designed to explore the universe's gravitational waves with higher sensitivity than current detectors, utilizing advanced technologies and deep underground placement.

Your profile:

Skills:

  • Background in fire risk assessment, fire prevention, and understanding of fire dynamics and human behavior in fire scenarios.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety, emergency safety systems, and fire-resistant materials.
  • Experience with fire modelling (e.g., CFD, FDS) and performance-based design.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international, multidisciplinary team.
  • Problem-solving and innovative thinking skills.

Valuable qualifications:

  • Experience with fire safety engineering methods and quantitative risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of European and international fire safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with passive and active fire protection systems.
  • Proactive, autonomous work capacity, and proficiency in English with a willingness to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Educational background in Fire Safety or Safety Engineering with 2-6 years post-graduation experience (Master's) or up to 3 years (PhD).
  • No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.

Additional Information:

  • Application deadline: 10.06.2025 at 23:59 CEST.
  • Contract duration: 24 months, extendable to 30 months.
  • Working hours: 40 hours/week.
  • Start date: 01-September-2025.
  • Work in radiation areas and underground installations; valid driving license required.
