Oil Analyst

As an Oil Analyst, you will play a central role in driving the firm’s market views, trade ideas, and risk strategies across the crude oil and refined products complex. This is a front-office, research-intensive role requiring both deep market knowledge and technical sophistication. You will collaborate closely with traders, data engineers, and portfolio managers to identify inefficiencies and model market dynamics.

  1. Develop and maintain analytical models of global crude oil and refined product supply/demand balances.
  2. Track and interpret key market indicators such as inventories, refinery runs, shipping flows, and macroeconomic trends.
  3. Leverage coding and data science to automate data ingestion, build dashboards, and enhance signal generation.
  4. Produce short- and long-term price forecasts and scenario analyses to inform trading strategies.
  5. Integrate alternative data (e.g., satellite, AIS, refinery data) into models to gain a market edge.
  6. Communicate insights clearly to traders and portfolio managers, contributing to trade idea generation and risk management.
  7. Minimum 3 years of experience in oil market analysis.
  8. Strong understanding of global oil market fundamentals and price drivers.
  9. Proficiency in Python or other relevant programming languages (e.g., R, SQL); experience with data visualization tools is a plus.
  10. Experience working with large datasets and APIs; comfort with automation and data pipelines.
  11. Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  12. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced trading environment.
  13. Background in physics, engineering, finance, or applied mathematics.
  14. Experience working in a hedge fund, commodity trading house, or energy major.
  15. Exposure to machine learning techniques and/or statistical modeling.
