The Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship is a non-profit institution based in Geneva that champions contemporary craftspeople worldwide, promoting a more human, inclusive, and sustainable future. The Foundation aims to highlight the connections between craft, the arts, and design, celebrating and preserving craftsmanship, its diversity of makers, materials, and techniques. It increases craft’s recognition and viability as a professional path for future generations through educational programs, digital projects like the Homo Faber Guide, and international exhibitions such as the Homo Faber Event.

Community Care & Development Manager (100%)

Position Summary

The Community Care & Development Manager oversees the Foundation’s community development and strategy implementation, managing a team of regional coordinators responsible for various geographical areas. The main communities include Artisans, Ateliers and Manufactures, Craft Network, Craft Experts, Homo Faber NextGen, and Friends of Homo Faber. The manager acts as the primary contact for community development questions, both internally and externally.

Key responsibilities include presenting the Foundation’s main projects to communities, orchestrating regional mappings and community engagement, liaising with other managers on sourcing and community matters, and sharing information regarding needs, projects, and planning. The role requires establishing clear reporting and task assignments within the team.

The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of the craft sector, experience in network or community development, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to thrive under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities

The manager implements sourcing and community development strategies in collaboration with Foundation management and regional coordinators, including:

  • Collecting needs from managers
  • Establishing sourcing strategies and plans
  • Advising regional coordinators
  • Sharing best practices and reviewing guidelines
  • Liaising with related managers for coordination across projects and events

For community development, responsibilities include:

  • Gathering needs and establishing maintenance and development strategies
  • Reporting on progress and achievements monthly
  • Managing the community care and network development team through meetings, setting priorities, and fostering a respectful, collaborative environment

The role also involves managing budgets for sourcing and network activities, ensuring compliance with financial procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in team and project management, with at least 3 direct reports
  • Knowledge of the crafts, arts, and design scene
  • Strong cultural curiosity and diplomatic interaction skills across cultures
  • Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in French and another language is mandatory
  • Organizational, coordination, multitasking, and leadership skills
