Franklin University Switzerland invites applications for a PhD position within the SNSF research project DIVIDE, led by Professor Oliver Strijbis. The successful candidate will join the Political Science doctoral program and contribute to research on the effects of secession referenda on interethnic relations, while developing their own doctoral project within the broader themes of the project.

Requirements

– MA degree in political science or a related discipline (evidence of expected graduation before September 1, 2025, is acceptable)

– Excellent Master’s thesis and/or final grades

– Demonstrated interest in political behavior and/or nationalism

– Strong knowledge of quantitative methods

– Motivation for an academic career

– Ability to work independently and collaboratively

– Good working knowledge of English

– Willingness to learn basic Italian (at least A1 level) within two years

– Additional language skills relevant to the project are advantageous

The position is fully funded for four years, conditional on approval of the PhD proposal by the end of the first year. The gross annual salary is CHF 47,000–50,000, in accordance with SNF funding conditions. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025, or as agreed.
