BakerHicks is a leading consultancy in the power transmission and distribution sector in the UK, expanding their power team in the DACH region. They are seeking an ambitious Substation / Primary Layout Engineer to support this growth.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer in the design and planning of transmission-level onshore substations at voltages from 110kV to 400kV. Responsibilities include producing substation primary layouts, equipment specifications, rating calculations, short circuit force calculations, earthing studies, voltage calculations, material lists, fault calculations, wiring diagrams, protection requirements, and system modeling.

Applicants must have full proficiency in German and a good level of English.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide substation layout designs and act as the lead substation engineer/planner.
  2. Collaborate closely with UK design teams to ensure compliance with local standards.
  3. Ensure timely and within-budget delivery of design scope.

Your Profile:

  • Experience in producing or managing designs, calculations, reports, and drawings for HV power transmission systems, HVDC interconnectors, or HV renewable energy infrastructure in the DACH region.
  • Full proficiency in German and good English skills.
  • Specialist knowledge in High Voltage Substations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to BakerHicks offices in Basel and London.

Travel and Work Conditions:

The duration of projects typically ranges from 6 to 24 months. Work locations are primarily at the customer site, with options for remote work in consultation with project management. Employees will have opportunities to work on diverse projects, visit new cities, and enjoy weekends at home.
