As a Senior Lawyer you’ll be responsible for providing in-house legal, regulatory and governance advice to Zurich’s financial advice businesses in Australia. Consistent with applicable laws and regulations, you will help us enable Zurich’s businesses to achieve their strategic and commercial goals, protect and preserve company’s assets, and identify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and reputational risks.
The role has a strong focus on financial advice, supporting Zurich’s advice business through the provision of advice on all legal requirements of operating a financial advice business, identification and strong management of governance issues and intra-group conflicts, helping compliance teams administer and optimise compliance frameworks, including respect of breach reporting, negotiating and documenting contracts with strategic partners, guiding complaints teams on complaints and disputes resolution, assisting with regulatory dealings and investigations and assisting with company secretarial duties.
The role also involves providing clear and solution focussed legal advice on a range of matters across the Zurich group, including in the following areas:
Financial services advice and distribution laws
General commercial and corporate law
Data protection and privacy law
Disputes and litigation
Regulatory inquiries and investigations
Important to your success
Strong experience and capabilities in financial services advice and distribution laws, working in a law firm or in-house position, with a particular focus on life insurance and superannuation products
Multiple years post qualification experience across financial advice and distribution
Commercial experience working with a financial services organisation highly regarded
Experience in advising on, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
Must have a solid understanding of the Corporations Act 2001 (esp. Chapter 7) and the ASIC Act 2001, insurance and superannuation law
Recognised Australian legal qualifications
Eligible to practice law in New South Wales
