Reports to: Vice President, Business Development – Europe (France-based)

Region Covered: Europe

Company Overview:

Our customer is a globally recognized CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) specializing in large molecule biologics, including monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). With advanced R&D and GMP manufacturing capabilities, we partner with biopharma clients from early-stage development through commercial-scale production, delivering high-quality, scalable solutions across the biologics value chain.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and driven Director of Business Development to lead our commercial efforts across the European market. This strategic role will focus on developing and managing partnerships with biopharma clients, aligning their development and manufacturing needs with our service offerings in large molecule biologics.

The position is based in Basel, with flexibility for remote or hybrid work, and reports directly to the VP of Business Development – Europe, who is based in France.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development activities across the European region for large molecule CDMO services
  • Identify, qualify, and secure new clients within the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors (focus on biologics)
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with key decision-makers in target companies
  • Develop customized proposals, negotiate contracts, and close strategic partnerships
  • Collaborate with internal technical, project management, legal, and operational teams to ensure seamless handoff and delivery
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline and report regularly on forecasts, opportunities, and client engagement
  • Represent the company at European industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events
  • Monitor competitive landscape and provide market insights to support strategic planning and service innovation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related field; PhD or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of business development or commercial experience in the CDMO/biopharma industry, with a focus on biologics
  • Solid technical understanding of biologics development and manufacturing (mAbs, proteins, ADCs, etc.)
  • Proven success in managing the full BD cycle — from lead generation through deal closure — in the EU market
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a remote and cross-cultural team environment
  • Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage
  • Willingness to travel within Europe (~30–40%)
