Job Description:

This role involves developing a backend for TimescaleDB to support data archiving in CERN's SCADA systems, collaborating with Siemens and CERN teams, and participating in the full software development lifecycle. The candidate will design database schemas, develop backend functionalities, and contribute to testing and deployment tools.

Your responsibilities

  • Join a team working on the NextGeneration Archiver for WinCC OA.
  • Develop a new TimescaleDB backend supporting data writing and querying.
  • Design performance-optimized database schemas.
  • Create tools for testing, deployment, and configuration.

Your profile

Skills

  • Proficiency in Modern C++, relational databases, and software design principles.
  • Experience with performance optimization and software workflows.

Preferred skills include debugging, multithreaded programming, DevOps, Python, gRPC, ZeroMQ, Protocol Buffers, and familiarity with SCADA systems.

Eligibility criteria:

  • National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Master's degree with 2-6 years or PhD with up to 3 years of experience.
  • No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.

Additional info: Contract duration of 24 months (possible extension), starting 01 September 2025, with a closing date of 15 July 2025.
