Reporting to the Head of Operations, Supramax, EMEA, we are currently looking for a Manager, Fleet Operations responsible for operating a fleet of about 8-10 ships and ensuring compliance with organization procedures and industry regulations to ensure the safe operation of ships.

Location: Hamburg, Germany

Requires work outside of regular business hours, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING | THE ROLE

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Familiarization with voyages and managing post fixture matters.
  2. Proper voyage planning with the objective to optimize time saving and revenue, reduce costs, and gather all required information.
  3. Elaboration of (optimal) bunkering plan.
  4. Providing timely and detailed instructions to the masters of the fleet.
  5. Appointing and instructing agents, surveyors, stevedores, and weather routing companies in a timely manner.
  6. Managing voyages; i.e., monitoring proactively all participants and initiating pre-emptive or corrective action whenever required.
  7. Preparing freight billings, approving payment of hires and miscellaneous vendor invoices.
  8. Ensuring full voyage accounting including closing voyages.
  9. Monitoring the issuance and on-forwarding of all cargo documents.
  10. Enforcing the company’s operational security and environmental policies.
  11. Working closely with our contract partners and maintaining the company’s high service standards and reputation.
  12. Performing other varied tasks, including post-voyage analysis (financial and statistical), maintaining IMOS VIP, and SEDNA.

WHAT YOU BRING | THE PERSON

The ideal candidate has:

  1. A minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as a Fleet Operator.
  2. Sea-going experience is an asset.
  3. Knowledge of the bulk shipping industry.
  4. Knowledge of Maritime Operating Systems such as IMOS, a preferred asset.
  5. Organized, fast worker, possessing the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  6. Inquisitive and logical.
  7. Results driven and strong problem solver.
  8. Ability to control costs.
  9. Ability to build relationships and develop trust.
  10. Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  11. Flexible to work outside of office hours.
  12. Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, and SEDNA or other collaboration technology tools.
