Job Description

Take part in CERN’s Technical Student Programme!

If your university or institute requires or encourages you to acquire work experience through an internship, imagine doing this at CERN in Geneva. It’s more than work experience; it’s a student programme like nowhere else on Earth and an impressive addition to your CV!

If you are a student looking to complete practical training in domains related to general or civil engineering, surveying, or safety, you will have the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of technology, contribute, and broaden your knowledge in areas such as industrial and tertiary building structures, design and drafting, underground structures, roads, drainage, geotechnical engineering, and safety risk management.

Please note that students specializing in theoretical or experimental particle physics are not eligible to apply for this programme.

Qualifications

To qualify for the programme, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You are a national of a CERN member or observer state.
  2. You have completed at least 18 months / 3 semesters of your undergraduate studies by the next student selection round in May 2025.
  3. You remain registered as a full-time student during the internship.
  4. You have a good knowledge of English or French.

Additional Information

CERN seeks to benefit from your expertise, commitment, and passion. In return, CERN offers:

  • A contract of association from 4 to 12 months.
  • An allowance of 3452 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
  • A travel allowance.
  • Additional support if you are married and/or have children.
  • Coverage for contributions deducted from your allowance.
  • 2.5 days of paid leave per month.

Required documentation:

You need to submit a CV in English or French in PDF format. Additional documents such as academic transcripts or reference letters are recommended.

Visit our dedicated webpage for more information.

Your application must be received by March 3rd, 2025 (23:59 CET).

Note that your application may be shared with national experts for evaluation. The final review will be conducted by CERN experts between March 3rd and early May 2025. You may be contacted for an interview or to provide additional information. The final decision will be communicated by the end of May 2025.

If your university requires a traineeship agreement, please note that CERN will not sign external documents. You will need to use the CERN traineeship agreement provided upon request.
