Opportunity Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a world-class Daily Engineer Officer to join our newly created luxury travel brand, “Explora Journeys”. The DEO is responsible for the daily maintenance and operations of the engineering and technical aspects of the vessel, as directed by the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer. The DEO may also be required to relieve the Staff Engineer.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Mutually coordinate with the Staff Engineer to be on board the vessel whenever the Staff Engineer is absent.
  2. Be directly responsible to the Staff Engineer for all work performed in the Engine Room, including maintenance and condition of the main Diesel Engine, Emergency Diesel Engine, pneumatic system, clutch system, main propeller shaft, simplex system, oil report, bilge separator, main fuel system, and bunkering.
  3. Control the proper disposal of refuse, rags, etc., during watch to prevent fire hazards and other dangers.
  4. Inspect all assigned work in progress and upon completion, ensuring optimal utilization of manpower.
  5. Train personnel assigned to the engine watch, especially new personnel, to follow safe working practices.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in oral and written English (the working language of the company).
  • Proficiency in any other major European language is advantageous and may influence selection.
  • Extensive experience with diverse luxury and premium hospitality venues, particularly in dining operations.
  • Previous experience in start-ups or pre-openings is a plus.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Passionate about hospitality and customer service-driven.

VISA and Certification Requirements

Certification, including visas if necessary, as mandated by STCW 95 for this position, along with all relevant documents valid at the time of employment, to comply with the Flag State requirements of the ship.
