Jobbeschreibung

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is Switzerland's largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences. We conduct cutting-edge research in future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation, and fundamental sciences. Our work aims to develop sustainable solutions for societal, scientific, and economic challenges. PSI employs approximately 2,300 staff members, including a significant number of post-docs, post-graduates, and apprentices.

The Control Systems section develops and maintains core software tools, APIs, and building blocks for reliable control systems across PSI's research facilities. Our control system platform is based on EPICS, facilitating data acquisition and device control for modern accelerator facilities. We are seeking a Group Leader for Control Systems to oversee our team responsible for beamline and experimental station integration at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) and SwissFEL X-ray free-electron laser facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and support a team of control system and software engineering specialists.
  • Coordinate group activities with peers and project leaders, including planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for stakeholder support and alignment, particularly with the Center for Photon Science working on SwissFEL and SLS.
  • Contribute to the section's vision, strategy, and culture, ensuring strategic goals are coherently implemented at the group level.
  • Integrate state-of-the-art experimental stations and beamline hardware into the EPICS control system, including maintenance and lifecycle management.

Your Profile

  • Degree in software engineering, computer science, natural sciences, or equivalent, with several years of control systems experience.
  • Strong technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills with software development experience.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Outcome and value-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Enjoy working in diverse environments; excellent communication skills are essential, and German language skills are a plus.

What We Offer

Join our interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic team. We provide systematic on-the-job training, personal development opportunities, and a strong vocational training culture. Our modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure support work-life balance and personal interests.
