Overview

The role exists to create the technology solution to support the business objective of becoming the financial backbone of the global EV charging ecosystem. The company is building a payment and settlement infrastructure for EV charging.

Core Responsibilities

• Automated settlement engine — revenue splits between several parties.
• FX layer — licensed cross-border currency conversion and payouts (USD/EUR/JPY/CHF, etc.).
• Payout rails — daily/weekly clearing.
• Data layer — unified reconciliation, reporting, and analytics.
• API-first architecture for partner integration.
• High-throughput transaction engine (global scale, low-latency).
• Data visibility: reconciliation and auditability.
• Reliability & scalability with daily global transactions and 24/7 uptime.

Accountabilities

Deliverables include: review and further develop the outline application architecture; develop the tech stack and supporting infrastructure; design and build the application.

Activities

As CTO, you will take a hands-on role in building the core technology that powers the platform. You will:

• Review, refine, and own the application architecture.
• Contribute to backend and API development in early stages; shape the future tech stack and infrastructure.
• Design and build real-time clearing, settlement, and payments platform with focus on scalability, security, and compliance.
• Integrate with EV charging protocols (OCPP, OCPI), payment gateways, FX engines, and compliance systems.
• Establish monitoring and uptime practices for mission-critical flows.
• Collaborate with CEO, leadership, operations, and commercial functions to align technology with business priorities.
• Build and mentor a small technical team as the platform grows.
• Coordinate with external technology partners for seamless integrations.

This is a new role in a fully funded start-up with founding management in place. The role holder will be a key member of the management team and an equity holder.

Education and Experience

We are seeking a hands-on senior engineer who can step into the CTO role. The ideal candidate will have:

• Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; postgraduate or MBA beneficial.
• 7–10 years’ backend/API engineering experience, ideally with digital payments, mobility, or EV infrastructure.
• Strong backend and API development skills (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or similar).
• Experience in building cloud-native, API-driven systems.
• Knowledge of digital payments and financial flows (FX, clearing, settlement) is desirable.
• Familiarity with EV charging standards and roaming protocols (OCPP, OCPI) is highly desirable.
• Security, data protection, and regulatory compliance (AML/KYC, PCI DSS).
• Experience in high-growth or start-up environments with speed and ownership.
• Ability to work effectively in remote/distributed setups with cross-functional collaboration.
