Role Description

The Senior Port Operations Manager will join Viking Cruises’ growing Ocean Operations team, reporting to a Director - Port Operations, and will supervise port operations and cost management for a given geographical region. You will work closely with the port operations team to ensure Viking’s Ocean and Expedition ships, guests and crew have optimal conditions in ports within the region managed. The ideal candidate has some work experience in cruise operations or related fields and is looking for the next step in their career. Although this is not a leadership role, the organization is set for rapid growth, so a desire to grow professionally and take on more responsibility over time is important. This role is located in Basel, Switzerland.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities in the port operations team, including berth and itinerary scheduling, guest turn-around logistics, port cost management, port & destination permitting and more.
  • Manage seasonal preparations, including permitting, for ships’ activities in the allocated region.
  • Ensure port cost management aligns with budget and management expectations for ports in the allocated region.
  • Ensure port information is up to date, accessible and available for onboard teams and the wider organization for ports in the region managed.
  • Support itinerary research for new ports and destinations in the region managed.
  • Collaborate with Directors and Leadership across the department to build improvement solutions and implementation plans.

Qualifications

  • 1-5 years of experience in a relevant industry/organization.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office tools (Teams, Copilot, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proactive approach and a tactful, diplomatic demeanor.
  • Clear communication skills in a multi-cultural team and with service providers in ports worldwide.
  • Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Deadline-driven, organized, and able to multitask and work independently in a high-paced environment.

  • Knowledge or experience with MarineXchange (MXP).
