Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow in Development Economics

Length of Commitment: Two years

The University of Zurich, led by Prof. Dina Pomeranz, is seeking a full-time research assistant to collaborate with a team of renowned economists on projects related to development economics, taxation, and firm development. The role involves engaging in all research stages, from literature review to data analysis and writing, with mentorship provided throughout.

Research Projects

The fellow will contribute to studies on tax compliance in low- and middle-income countries, public procurement impacts, and welfare improvements for low-income workers, utilizing large-scale datasets and participating in randomized field experiments in Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics or a related quantitative social science field.
  • Strong knowledge of STATA; familiarity with R or Python is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Interest in international development, taxation, or firm behavior research.

No work permit is required; visa assistance will be provided if needed. The position is full-time (70% research, 30% learning).
