As the Chief Health Officer and Deputy Director-General, you will lead Queensland's preventive health, public health, and health information initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape healthcare policies, collaborate with stakeholders, and lead a dedicated team. You will oversee disaster coordination, emergency response, and preparedness activities statewide, ensuring Queensland's capacity to handle communicable diseases and other health threats.

Queensland Health seeks qualified medical professionals with:

  • Experience managing sensitive government issues to achieve effective policy outcomes.
  • Proven ability to build credible relationships across government, private, and non-government sectors.
  • Skills in communicating complex medical information clearly to the public to foster confidence and understanding.

Clinical qualifications holders may negotiate remuneration.

The Successful Candidate:

Will possess advanced negotiation skills, political awareness, and flexibility to navigate complex challenges. You will be assertive, confident in decision-making, and effective in high-stakes situations. Your strong communication skills will enable you to articulate complex issues clearly and work under tight deadlines to meet Queensland Health's objectives.

Additional Requirements:

  • A medical degree and registration (or eligibility) as a Medical Officer with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
  • Ability to travel across Queensland.
  • Current 'C' class driver's license.
  • Vaccination against key preventable diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis, hepatitis B, and tuberculosis.
