Senior Legal Counsel, Litigation & Dispute

Today MSC is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to expand its Dispute Resolution / Litigation Team.


YOUR IMPACT

As Senior Legal Counsel in the Dispute Resolution department, you will be part of the Litigation and Disputes Team and have an instrumental role in resolving disputes and litigating matters across multiple jurisdictions for the MSC Cargo Division. You will:

  • Oversee and manage the company’s uninsured disputes (out of court, in litigation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute resolution proceedings) globally and across internal functions.
  • Advise management and business units on day-to-day legal issues concerning disputes.
  • Devise litigation strategy, conduct legal research, review, interpret and apply applicable statutes, case law, and industry regulations.
  • Instruct and oversee external counsel and represent the company before governmental and regulatory authorities along with external counsel.
  • Collaborate closely with other legal functions in the company, including claims, compliance, M&A, competition, and contracts, to ensure alignment in our disputes strategy.
  • Work closely with the company’s worldwide agencies network to stay up to date on potential and existing litigation risks and to gather the relevant information effectively.
  • Introduce and communicate best practices for dispute resolution, participate in the development and review of company’s policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Manage assigned or delegated special projects and tasks in an efficient, economical manner, keeping in mind our company’s goals and objectives.


YOUR BACKGROUND

  • University degree in law from an accredited university.
  • Licensed to practice law and current member in good standing ofa bar association.
  • More than 8 years’ experience in litigation and disputeresolution post-qualification working in a top tier law firm, amultinational company, or a government agency.
  • Significant and relevant experience in the shipping or maritimesector.
  • Very good analytical and problem-solving skills. You are anexcellent litigation strategists and see how to work a case from start tofinish in a way that meets the goals set out at the commencement of thematter.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude: you enjoy working inteams and you work well under pressure. While you are able to manage andbe responsible for your own matters, you ensure you team with othermembers of the Legal and Business community and keep management regularlyinformed of progress. Strategic decisions are taken jointly.
  • Prior in-house experience is welcome but not essential.
  • You are a skilled communicator and you strive to provideconcise cutting-edge business-tailored legal advice.
  • You have excellent fluency in spoken and written English aswell as good English legal writing skills; proficiency in French and otherlanguages is an asset.
