Water treatment technician for industrial cooling systems (EN-CV-WMC-2025-5-LD)

  • Contract

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter—fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Introduction

The Engineering Department (EN) pushes forward the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. You will join the Cooling and Ventilation (CV) group of the EN department, responsible for the operation and maintenance of CERN’s cooling and ventilation systems. This includes supervision of installation, commissioning of new systems, upgrades, and consolidation of existing systems.

Are you a qualified technician specialized in water treatment of industrial cooling systems such as reverse osmosis or ultra-filtration? Are you interested in the environmental aspects related to water use? Contribute your skills and experience to operate and maintain complex cooling plants in a unique environment hosting some of the world’s most complex technical installations. Join CERN’s Cooling and Ventilation team and take part!

Functions

As a Water Treatment Technician within the Cooling and Ventilation group, you will participate in the operation, maintenance, and modification of water treatment systems related to cooling plants.

You will:

  1. Plan (using the CMMS system), coordinate, supervise, check, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on cooling plants and water treatment installations;
  2. Perform operational and maintenance activities to ensure proper functioning of water treatment plants;
  3. Liaise regularly with users regarding water treatment matters;
  4. Propose and define suitable solutions for water treatment during new system installations, modifications, or renovations;
  5. Coordinate contractors' maintenance and installation work, ensuring compliance with contractual and technical standards;
  6. Contribute to project phases from design through to testing and commissioning;
  7. Write technical reports and notes, maintaining up-to-date documentation compliant with quality standards;
  8. Ensure safety rules are followed during all interventions;
  9. Participate in standby service.
