Job summary

Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar seeks the most senior doctor in General Surgery, the Senior Consultant, to oversee a team of Consultants and junior doctors, guide clinical decisions, and ensure high quality patient care.

The role collaborates with department leadership on service development, teaching, training, and research priorities while upholding licensing requirements and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Western qualification (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification clinical experience in General Surgery.
• Valid medical license/registration and eligibility for licensing in Qatar.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to high standards of patient care, patient safety, and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide the care of all patients admitted under the Senior Consultant's name and for all clinical decisions made by doctors under supervision.
• Oversee a team of Consultants and junior doctors and manage other team members.
• Work with department chair/section head on service development, funding, budgets, and staffing.
• Teach and train junior doctors and contribute to academic and research priorities.

Job description

The purpose of this role is the most senior doctor (apart from the Department Chair and/or Section Head) who practices in a specific specialty and has oversight responsibility for his team of Consultants and junior doctors and manages other team members. The Senior Consultant is responsible for the care of all patients admitted under his name and for all the clinical decisions made by other doctors under his supervision. Ability to relate well to others and use interpersonal skills to achieve desired objectives, recognizing the need to represent both the clinical work and the team In addition to providing high quality patient care (diagnose, treat, manage and admit patients under his name) as delineated by his clinical privileges, the Senior Consultant works closely with department chair and/or section head on management issues (such as service development, funding, budgets, and staffing), on the teaching and training of junior doctors, and on academic and research priorities.

Experience and Qualifications

• Western Qualification (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or equivalent)
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification clinical experience in General Surgery
• Valid medical license/registration from the home country and/or eligibility for licensing in Qatar
