Job description
Description

Dow Jones Newswires is seeking two reporters to cover business, finance, economics and markets across the Middle East. Based in Doha, the reporters will be part of a region-wide team supporting Newswires’ wider EMEA operations.

Fund manager allocations to the region are rising rapidly, and Middle Eastern private equity firms and institutional investors are playing a growing role in global dealmaking. Newswires is seeking reporters with proven track records of scoops and source-building, who can get inside the big financial bets shaping asset classes across the region – from equities to fixed income and commodities.

The reporters will be expected to break news on capital flows and private equity executive moves, and to conduct exclusive interviews with corporate, banking and private equity executives, as well as regional fund managers. Our subscribers are particularly interested in private markets and energy news from the region. While this will be just part of the job, successful candidates will be expected to source up quickly and deliver scoops in these areas.

The reporters will also contribute to our daily global news report. This includes identifying important, forward‑looking details from a fast‑moving stream of information related to regional companies, central banks and other business‑news‑making entities. The foundation of this work is turning that disclosure into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English.

Another major part of the role will be to analyze news quickly and explain the signals it sends to investors. This starts with short, quick‑fire analysis, followed by slightly longer‑form articles and/or analysis with more detail, and extends to more expansive, thematic items over time.

Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume news environment where teamwork and strong communication skills are crucial.

Excellent written English is essential. Proficient Arabic is preferred, but not required.

This is an exciting opportunity to write market‑leading breaking news for Dow Jones, the global authority in business journalism and publisher of The Wall Street Journal.

You will :
  • Break news – big and small scoops – that will drive professional readers interested in this subject to our Newswires.
  • Tap existing sourcing or demonstrate an ability to build sourcing with the aim of breaking news.
  • Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify important disclosed news for professional audiences, and efficiently prioritize and summarize it into smart briefs and follow‑up analysis on what the news means for investors, drawing from a wealth of available content.
  • Recognise and respond to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires and their needs and expectations.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups, including Dow Jones Newswires, The Wall Street Journal and other Dow Jones colleagues, as well as those in other bureaus and regions.
  • Communicate precisely and respectfully.
  • Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics.
You have :
  • A well‑honed sense of urgency and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • At least two to three years’ relevant experience.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn.
  • Flexibility in changing or handing off tasks.
  • General awareness of how a newsroom works.
  • A solid sense of teamwork.
