Job description
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:
  • Manage allocated nursing resources to ensure equity of workload and match clinical complexity with nursing competency.
  • Co-ordinate allocated workload on a day-to-day basis to ensure efficient and effective clinical care delivery.
  • Deliver care to patients and families that is culturally & religiously appropriate and promotes positive health outcomes.
  • To solve problems to meet emergent needs and report issues that may require further intervention. Conduct nursing interventions in accordance with policy, procedure and code of conduct which effect nursing practice.
  • Prepare the Operating Theatre room ensuring it is always available for any emergent procedures. Anticipate the needs of the scrub team during cases.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of strategies to support application of quality standards and quality improvements.
  • Promote the application of evidence-based data in patient care. Participate in the development and review of policies and procedures.
  • Model effective communication with patients and families. Demonstrate effective written communication skills in clinical documentation.
  • Maintain a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with members of the interdisciplinary team. Communication is guided by respect, trust and collaboration. Utilize S.B.A.R. for verbal/telephone clinical communications.
  • Work with the nursing supervisor to provide guidance and support for ward nursing staff to enable them to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Participate in the coordination of Department educational activities to meet emerging needs.
  • Take a leading role in the clinical education of Theatre staff in collaboration with the Head Nurse and Nurse Educator.
  • Maintain annual mandatory and core competencies relevant to the position. Undertake self-development opportunities to promote and maintain knowledge and competence.
  • Implement approved departmental policies, processes and procedures, to ensure work is completed out in a controlled and consistent manner while delivering a world class service. Ensure cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce wastage and unnecessary expense.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant QHSSE management procedures and controls across the department to provide a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.
  • Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.
  • Patient Safety-Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.
Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:
  • Minimum experience of 3-5 years in which 1 year should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry.
Education and Certification requirements:
  • Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Post graduate qualification is ideal.
  • Fulfil all licensing requirements.
Job specific technical Skills:
  • Ensuring that the operating room is ready, the equipment checked and consumables available.
  • Skills and knowledge about sports and Orthopedic surgeries.
  • Able to assist the surgeon within the Aspetar scope.
  • Maintain sterile field at all the time.
  • Knowledge regarding the OR inventory management.
  • High proficiency in English language is mandatory. Arabic will be a definitive advantage.
