Experience:- 10 + Years

Education:- B.E or B.Tech in Instrumentation or Electronics

Locally available candidates in Qatar with freelance visa

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) : These systems are critical for controlling and mitigating hazardous events, such as gas leaks, fires, pressure vessel ruptures, etc. The Lead CSS Engineer ensures the SIS is designed to meet industry standards
  • Develop Functional Safety Requirements : Create detailed functional safety specifications, including SIS architecture, fail-safe design, and redundancy protocols to meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Implement Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) : Ensure systems are in place to trigger safe shutdowns during emergency situations, preventing damage to equipment and personnel.
  • System Integration :
  • Integrate control and safety systems with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) , Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) , SCADA , and other control and monitoring systems used in oil and gas facilities.
  • Ensure that control systems are properly integrated with safety systems to provide real-time data, diagnostics, and reporting capabilities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and automation engineers) to ensure a seamless integration of safety controls within the overall control infrastructure.
  • Safety and Risk Assessment :
  • Conduct hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) , and layer of protection analysis (LOPA) to assess risks and ensure the proper mitigation measures are in place for safe operation.
  • Participate in the development and review of process hazard analysis (PHA) to identify, assess, and reduce operational risks in hazardous environments.
  • Safety System Testing and Validation :
  • Oversee the testing and validation of safety systems to ensure they meet functional requirements and safety standards.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for safety systems and components.
  • Ensure that all systems are tested periodically to confirm they meet safety integrity levels (SIL) as per the requirements of IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 standards.
  • Maintenance and Optimization of Safety Systems :
  • Lead the ongoing maintenance and optimization of control safety systems, ensuring that any system failures, malfunctions, or upgrades are addressed promptly.
  • Monitor the performance of safety systems and implement necessary adjustments to enhance their reliability and performance.
  • Develop and update preventive maintenance plans for control and safety systems to ensure the continuous safe operation of the facility.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation :
  • Ensure all safety and control systems comply with relevant local, regional, and international standards, codes, and regulations, such as ATEX (for explosion-proof equipment), API 670 (for machinery protection), and NFPA 70E (for electrical safety).
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for control and safety systems, including safety plans, system specifications, drawings, and safety analysis reports, to ensure audit ability and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of all safety system modifications, configurations, and operational performance for audits and safety reviews.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration :
  • Lead a team of engineers, technologists, and technicians working on control safety systems, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical support to ensure high standards of performance.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, process engineering) and departments (e.g., safety, maintenance, operations) to ensure alignment of safety systems with overall operational goals.
  • Provide regular reports on the performance, risks, and status of control safety systems to senior management.
  • Incident Management and Root Cause Analysis :
  • Lead investigations into incidents, failures, or near-misses related to control safety systems. Conduct root cause analysis to determine the underlying causes of issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and incorporate lessons learned into future system designs and safety protocols.
  • Continuous Improvement and Training :
  • Keep up with technological advancements in control and safety systems, incorporating new tools, methods, and technologies to improve system safety and performance.
  • Organize and lead internal training sessions for team members and stakeholders to improve their knowledge of control safety systems and compliance with safety standards.
