Job summary

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) invites applications for Senior Scientist to lead Biotechnology Guided by AI and Engineering under the QBRI NEXUS initiative. You will drive independent, cutting-edge research, supervise diverse teams, and align projects with HBKU goals while advancing strategic infrastructure and scientific excellence.

You will develop multidisciplinary programs, foster collaborations, and secure external funding to sustain impact.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with hands-on experience.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience with publications, conference papers, reports, or contributions.
• Experience developing experimental platforms combining data acquisition, ML, sensing, instrumentation, and computational analysis.
• Ability to bridge engineering and biology to develop technology driven by biological questions.
• Strong writing skills and capability to draft and edit reports and communications.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and conduct independent, joint original research contributing to institute programs.
• Lead multidisciplinary research programs aligned with ongoing agenda and strategic plans.
• Contribute to QBRI research strategy, business plans, and execution.
• Supervise Master, PhD students, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and staff.
• Seek and secure external funding to complement HBKU resources.
• Prepare progress reports and recommend improvements to enhance research performance.
