KITCHEN STEWARD JOB DESCRIPTION
A Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall hygiene of the kitchen and related areas. The role ensures that chefs and kitchen staff have clean dishes, tools, and workspaces to operate efficiently and safely. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to follow safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize kitchen areas including floors, walls, counters, and surfaces.
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and serviceware using dishwashing machines or manual methods.
- Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, and refrigerators.
- Properly dispose of waste, recyclables, and food scraps according to safety guidelines.
- Ensure storage areas, pantries, and refrigerators remain neat and hygienic.
Operational Support
- Assist chefs by providing clean tools, utensils, and equipment as needed.
- Replenish soap, cleaning chemicals, and supplies regularly.
- Support basic kitchen tasks such as organizing, stacking, and transporting supplies.
- Assist in loading/unloading deliveries and organizing stock.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Follow HACCP food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
- Use protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals or heavy items.
- Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or hazards to supervisors.
- Ensure proper chemical dilution and safe operation of cleaning equipment.
Teamwork & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with chefs, servers, and kitchen staff.
- Maintain a cooperative and positive attitude in a fast‑paced environment.
- Assist during peak hours and support the overall kitchen workflow.
