Overview

Under the supervision of the Emergency Dispatcher Lead, the Emergency Services Dispatcher functions primarily as a call-taker telecommunicator responsible for receiving, recording, and managing requests for Fire and Emergency Services responses. The dispatcher dispatches emergency personnel to situations requiring critical response, reads posted orders to determine personnel requirements, notifies personnel of work assignments and changes via telephone or radio, and posts assignment information on the dispatch board. They may also issue equipment to emergency personnel and contact personnel to verify assignment locations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a call-taker telecommunicator, managing requests for Fire and Emergency Services responses.
• Dispatch emergency personnel to critical situations.
• Read posted orders to determine personnel needs and notify personnel of assignments and changes.
• Post assignment information on the dispatch board.
• Issue equipment to emergency personnel as needed.
• Verify assignment locations with emergency personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; international Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Proboard Telecommunicator II certification required. A one-year related experience may substitute for one year of education.
• Minimum two (2) years experience as a Fire Department Emergency Service Dispatcher.
• Skills: Ability to communicate clearly via radio and telephone, record, transmit, and report information accurately, and speak English fluently.
• Working Conditions: Capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures exceeding 120°F, in indoor and outdoor environments with harsh conditions.
• Physical Requirements: Light work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or frequently, with PPE required for certain situations. Must comply with all safety regulations.
