Job Summary

The Commis Waiter assists the waitstaff and provide support in various tasks related to dining service. They work under the supervision of experienced waiters or captains to ensure efficient and smooth restaurant operations. Commis Waiters may be responsible for setting tables, taking orders, serving food and beverages, clearing tables, and assisting guests with any requests. Their role is crucial in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring a pleasant dining experience for patrons.

Job Responsibilities
  • Set tables with utensils, napkins, and other dining essentials before guests arrive.
  • Greet guests upon arrival, escort them to their tables, and present menus.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and promptly, ensuring special requests or dietary restrictions are noted.
  • Serve food and beverages to guests efficiently and courteously, following established service standards.
  • Clear tables between courses and after guests depart, removing used dishes, utensils, and glassware.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the dining area, including wiping tables and chairs, and tidying up spills.
  • Assist guests with inquiries, provide menu recommendations, and address any concerns or requests promptly.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth and efficient service during peak dining hours.
  • Assist in preparing and garnishing dishes as needed, ensuring presentation meets restaurant standards.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and hygiene standards at all times to ensure a safe dining environment for guests.
Job Knowledge & Skills
  • Understanding of the restaurant's menu offerings, including ingredients, preparation methods, and specials, to effectively assist guests with their orders and provide recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with guests, address inquiries, and accommodate special requests or preferences.
  • Knowledge of proper table service techniques, including table setting, order taking, food and beverage service, and table clearing, to ensure efficient and attentive service.
  • Strong attention to detail to accurately record orders, deliver food and beverages correctly, and maintain cleanliness and organization in the dining area.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other staff members, including servers, kitchen staff, and management, to ensure seamless coordination and exceptional dining experiences for guests.
