Job Title: Chief Electrician – Offshore JackupRig
Location: Offshore Qatar (North Field, Halul Island, or ContractedRigs)
Employment Type: Rotational (e.g., 28 days on/28 days off)
Reporting To: Rig Manager / OIM (Offshore Installation Manager)
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Systems Management
- Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of jackup rig electrical systems, including power generation & distribution (HV/LV switchgear, transformers, circuitbreakers)
- Drilling equipment (top drives, draw works, VFD systems)
- Jacking system controls (PLC‑driven leg elevation systems)
- Emergency systems (UPS, battery banks, emergency lighting)
- HVAC & refrigeration (crew quarters, hazardous area compliance)
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Qatar Energy (QE) standards, IEC/ATEX regulations, and Qatar Civil Defence (QCD) fire safety codes
- Conduct hazardous area inspections (Zone 1/Zone 2 classifications for explosive atmospheres)
- Implement Lockout‑Tagout (LOTO) and Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) procedures
- Supervise electricians, E&I technicians, and subcontractors
- Coordinate with onshore engineering teams for major repairs and spare parts procurement
- Emergency Response
- Lead troubleshooting during blackouts, electrical fires, or equipment failures
- Ensure emergency generators and UPS systems are operational
- Documentation & Audits
- Maintain logs for Qatar Ministry of Energy inspections and Class surveys (ABS/DNV)
- Report electrical incidents to QE (Qatar Energy) or Nakilat (if rig is chartered)
Requirements
Qualifications & Certifications
Mandatory
- Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent trade certification)
- 10+ years offshore experience (5+ as Chief Electrician on jackup rigs)
- ATEX/IECEx Certification (for hazardous area electrical work)
- COMPEX (Ex01‑Ex04) (highly preferred for Gulf region)
- QP Safety Passport
- Qatar Ministry of Public Health Medical Certificate
- BOSIET/FOET with HUET (Offshore Survival & Helicopter Escape)
Preferred
- Siemens/ABB PLC & VFD troubleshooting (critical for jacking systems)
- HV Switching Certification (if handling 6.6 kV/11 kV systems)
- SAP/CMMS experience (for maintenance tracking)
