A leading construction firm in Doha, Qatar is seeking a Chief Accountant to oversee accounting operations and ensure compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have 7–12 years of experience, particularly in the GCC construction sector, along with strong project accounting and cost control skills. Leadership and proficiency in ERP systems are critical. This role offers the opportunity to lead an accounting team in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • 7–12 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in the construction industry within the GCC.
  • Strong experience with project accounting and cost control.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and payroll.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage project cost control, including tracking of project expenses and revenues.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and handle annual audits.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring high performance and accuracy.

Job Summary

The Chief Accountant will oversee the organization’s accounting operations, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and manage financial reporting for construction projects within the GCC region. The role requires strong experience in project accounting, cost control, and financial management specific to the construction sector.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and payroll.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and local GCC accounting regulations.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
Construction Project Accounting
  • Manage project cost control, including tracking of project expenses and revenues.
  • Review and verify project cost allocations, WIP (Work-in-Progress), and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Ensure accurate recording of subcontractor payments, retention, advances, and progress billings (certificates).
  • Work closely with the project management team on cost reports and financial status.
Audit & Compliance
  • Coordinate with external auditors and handle annual audits.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls.
Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring high performance and accuracy.
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
Systems & Process Improvements
  • Oversee ERP accounting modules.
  • Improve financial processes and ensure timely reporting.
