Overview

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is seeking applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will advance the mission of the University through excellence in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level. This position encompasses instruction in intersensory mediation for the creative industries, accessibility, and disability studies with a particular focus on Arabic‑speaking contexts. The role requires a commitment to scholarly excellence through original research, pursuit of external funding opportunities, and mentorship of student research projects. The successful candidate will champion interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement initiatives that promote accessibility and inclusive communication practices. Beyond the classroom, this position involves contributing to academic program development and building strategic partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations. The successful candidate will work to advance accessibility and inclusion across diverse linguistic, cultural, and media landscapes throughout Qatar and the wider Arab region, positioning HBKU as a leader in accessible communication research and practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assigned courses or seminars to contribute to student learning.
• Supervise independent study activities to guide students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
• Serve as an academic advisor to guide students in course selection.
• Serve on and chair university and college committees.
• Render service to the professional or lay community relevant to the academic specialty.
• Direct research programs of undergraduate and graduate students and advise on research matters.
• Conduct research in the field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books.
• Serve on faculty committees dealing with curriculum planning, degree requirements, and perform a variety of administrative duties.
• Participate in curriculum development activities, including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods to improve the university’s teaching materials.
• Conduct scholarly activity to contribute to HBKU becoming a leading research university.
• Supervise research projects and theses to ensure their success.
• Seek funding support for research to help make HBKU a world‑class research university.
• Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in certain fields.
• 2–5 years of relevant full‑time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related industry areas, with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
• Evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
• Research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of Assistant Professor, compared with peers at major research universities.
• Evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society.
• Portfolio of scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, IP/patents, etc.) comparable with peers at a major research university.
• Evidence of an increasing regional and international reputation in the scholarly discipline.
• Ability to work with and exposure to diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
• Support in developing networks and collaboration within HBKU and with program partners and branch campuses in both teaching and research activities.
